I was actually expecting to see some hard evidence to support your view that tithing is biblical for the New Testament church and I didn’t find any. You’ve used the same weak argument pro-tithers the world over use: it was done by Abraham before the law.

Now, was tithing the only thing Abraham practised before the law? He practised animal sacrifice, circumcision, and slavery. Would we now say these are valid today because they were practised 400 years before the law was introduced?

We have greatly overlooked a very important fact about the law and the pre-law existence: the law was already operational before Moses! It was only codified by Moses. Adam observed the law, Cain and Abel observed the law and so did all that came after them. As it held clues as to who the messiah was going to be. He was to be the seed of a woman, the firstborn of all creation, who was going to be our Sabbath and a pleasing offering unto God. He would be the seed of Abraham and the son of David who would build an everlasting house for God.

No portion of scripture ever tells us to follow Abraham’s example and tithe as his tithe had a completely different significance. It was used by the writer of the book of Hebrews to prove to the Jewish Christians that Melchizedek was the precedent of a High priest who was not a descendant of Levi and not made one by the law but was allowed to legally receive tithes. Jesus belonged to is same order as His priesthood was confirmed by an oath and not by the law.

Since all of these have been fulfilled in Christ Jesus, it becomes pointless for us to keep observing the Sabbath, giving burnt offerings, tithing, observing the rite of circumcision etc.

God bless.

I agree, the calling is place on the planter/pastor. However, you wife still needs to be on board at least to the point where she will biblically follow her husband no matter where he leads. This puts lots of responsibility on the husband to follow the Lord everyday. My point was that she needs to be incredible and able to follow a husband that is leading correctly. The wife will make or break a planter!

Jeff, great 4 points for church planters. I have to add clarity of my opinion (even though I have not planted before, may be it will change if I do) to your 2nd point. Your wife doesn't have to be called personally to "church planting". She needs to be a woman who loves and fears God and has a biblical understanding of marriage and leadership. She may not be the big risk taker, picture perfect host and servant. She might be a called mom, wife and lover of God and His people who is willing to live biblically. :) I'm praying for you and love you and your heart for church planting.

[...] There will be lots of “religious” people in Hell. Sounds politically incorrect, right? IT IS! The fact is religion won’t get you to Heaven, only a RELATIONSHIP with Jesus Christ. What religious acts do you see in today’s church? If you would like to know more about Jesus, you have to read this.
